I need it for work

Jun 24, 2012 4:31 PM by Discussion: Personal Computing

I'm trying to find a software program to capture video from the following website http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/go2.jsp?Page=/webcast/webcast_main&locale=en&menuItem=dandp_webcast.

My plan is to set it up on my old laptop strictly for this purpose while I work normally on my desktop so that the taping doesn't get interrupted. The purpose is to tape certain segments throughout the day that I need to post on our website/facebook and youtube pages. I think I'll need a converter too.

Since this is strictly for work, I'm looking for free software, or inexpensively priced if it's a really great easy-to-use program.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I use Tiles alll the time and have had it on my work computer (XP) as well, then about a week or so ago, it stopped working at work. I downloaded it again from Stardock store website from my account, but it still says that the beta version has expired.

Any way around this, on my home computer (W7), it's fine?

I have a full subscription of ObjectDesktop.

Great news for Rainmeter lovers here at WC, the newest version, 2.1, was released today.

I am posting the Press Release so that you can see all the changes that have been made in this version.

I am using it now and have not had any problems with it.

Enjoy,

Karen

The Rainmeter team couldn’t be more pleased to announce the release of Rainmeter 2.1. Over seven months have passed since we made the big jump to version 2.0 - which has been downloaded over 1.3 million times since its release in February - making this one of the longest development cycles in Rainmeter’s history. But Rainmeter hasn’t stopped growing. Our latest achievement comes alongside a brand-new website http://rainmeter.net/cms/, and there’s a lot to be excited about:

 • We’ve added our single most-requested feature: the NowPlayingplugin, which allows a single Rainmeter skin to interact with a huge range of popular media players by changing only a single setting. AIMP, Foobar2000, iTunes, MediaMonkey, MusicBee, Winamp, VLC Media Player, and Windows Media Player are all fully supported, along with any other players that are compatible with CD Art Display. Last.fm, Media Player Classic, OpenPandora, Spotify, TTPlayer and Zune are partially supported. The plugin not only allows the display of track, artist and album information and basic player controls, but also makes it possible to change the track position, toggle shuffle and repeat settings, and even rate your music directly from Rainmeter.

 • Past versions included a small fleet of popular addons that made it easier to manage and customize your skins: RainBrowser, RainThemes, RainBackup, and Rainstaller. We are now in the process of baking those features directly into Rainmeter, starting with the Rainmeter Manager. Just click on the Rainmeter icon in your Windows tray, and you’ll have your whole library at your fingertips. Load new skins, change settings on the fly, and save and restore your “theme” arrangements - all from the same elegant tabbed interface.

 • While Rainmeter was already incredibly light on system resources, you asked us to make it even lighter - and we answered the challenge. Rainmeter’s performance has been improved in countless areas, including significantly faster launch times and image caching for graphics-heavy skins. Rainmeter 2.1 also plays better with Windows 7 than ever before. Skins can take advantage of Aero blur, and Rainmeter now keeps track of your network usage independently, instead of by theme.

 • And for you Rainmeter skin authors looking for new development features, we have a whole lot of new toys for you. We’ve added commands to change any meter’s settings and appearance without using styles or variables, added escape variables and “magic” quotes to make bang commands more powerful, and made improvements to the Lua script measure, which lets you break free of Rainmeter’s simple format and jump into a complex multi-line script whenever you need to. Substitution now allows regular expressions for all measures. The totally-overhauled About console gives you finer control over notification, debug and error logs. And we’ve cleaned up the code, shortening many commands, and making others more consistent and intuitive for beginners to learn.

The Rainmeter community is growing by the day, and with the brave new world of Windows 8 on the horizon, it looks like there’s no end in sight! We invite you to partake in our latest milestone release - and many more to come.

- The Rainmeter Team

Customize.org http://customize.org/browse/latest had experienced a run of malware and spam a couple of months ago (just like dA) and to deal with it, they installed a virus scanner and blocked uploads for awhile so that the moderators could clean up the site.

The scanner is not perfect, but they are trying to find a better solution - so you still have to be careful in what you download. For some reason, it reads all windowblinds as infected, but my contact there is working to correct that.

But the best news is, that the block has been turned off and the site is open again to upload all your skins!

If you see any problems there with spam or malware, give me a shout at http://customize.org/karmat or https://www.wincustomize.com/users/2687090/karmat and I'll look into it. The site allows moderators alot more freedom to deal with issues than dA does. Now get uploading!

Saw this article http://lifehacker.com/#!5787083/bins-creates-stacks-of-applications-in-your-windows-7-taskbar on Lifehacker just now and it's supposedly by Stardock, just wondering why we haven't heard about it before. I'm about to go and try it out...

Bins Creates Stacks of Applications in Your Windows 7 Taskbar

 by Adam Dachis

Windows: From the creators of Fences comes Bins, which is basically the Windows 7 equivalent of the "Stacks" feature in Mac OS X. If you want to organize your taskbar's program icons into little convenient bins, this download is for you.

Bins is very easy to use. You just install it and then drag a program icon from the taskbar (or wherever) onto another program icon on the taskbar and you'll create a bin. The bins look a lot like Mac OS X's stacks in Grid view, only much more compact. When you mouse over your new bin, it'll show you what's inside and you can access everything easily. Mousing over any of those items will activate Aero Peek, as you might expect. It's really simple and works very well. One downside is that Bins currently does not have support for jumplists, but I have it on good authority that jump list support is on its way.

Bins is currently available as a public beta. Right now you can try it out for free, but it'll cost money when it's released. A $5 discount is being offered for pre-orders, and students get special pricing as well.

...And then it links to Bins, OneUp Industries http://www.oneupindustries.com/bins where you can download the trial beta.

Malware & Stealth Keyloggers within

Apr 12, 2011 10:07 PM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I just wanted to post news of what's going on at deviantART the past few days to warn people of the infected skins that are getting uploaded to the Rainmeter Gallery there.

We have found 20 rainmeter skins so far (almost 4,000 downloads so far) that:

1) contain malware, trojans, worms, and stealth keyloggers

2) are complete copies of other artists skins, right down to the same preview and description

A couple of ways to recognize a potential bad skin is that the person:

- is a brand new member

- they have their comments turned off

- they have no personal info on their profile page

- they don't have anything else in their gallery or they have the two or three infected skins from this week

We've been doing numerous testing, reporting, warning, blogging, etc etc, still waiting for dA staff to show signs that they are alive and interested.

I'm pretty sure it's someone that was banned that is now trying to wreak havoc, but there's no way of proving it unless dA decides to get involved. Needless to say, our group there and at the Rainmeter Forum are pretty upset by this and we're trying to keep on top of it, but it's pretty hard to do without assistance from dA. As soon as we find/test/report/blog one infection, another one has popped up.

For people here who download (or have downloaded any in the last week) rainmeter skins from dA, please read the full post at our Rainmeter Group there first, we are keeping it updated with news of infected skins as we find them along with the virus reports http://rainmeter.deviantart.com/blog/39762918/

Most important, if you download there, don't if it is a .exe file. It should either be .rmskin or a zip file with .ini and .png files.

As you know, here at WC, your rainmeter downloads are completely safe because they actually moderate here, novel concept!

If you have any questions or news, you can contact me here, private pm or at deviantART http://karmat111.deviantart.com/.

Keep it safe!

Karen

Update - Here is a screenshot of the Rainmeter Gallery with the infected skins circled in red - stay away from them.

For the last hour, anytime I try to click on a forum posting, I get a warning that it's an Attack page. Also happened when I tried to send a pm to someone. Anybody know why this is happening? Here's what it looks like...

If anybody's interested, you can get Aston2 for free for the rest of the day from Giveaway of the Day. I tried to post this earlier but the site wouldn't let me post it. I don't know if it's any good, haven't tried it yet.
